Claire Rioux , Québec Canada

Claire was born on July 26 1950 in Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec Canada. Her fascination for art leads her to use drawing, pastels, oil, as well as watercolour and acrylics. These past few years, her passion has turned to the monotype. She perfects her art and technique which translate into exclusive pieces on parchment and masonite.

Monotype

The monotype was invented in the 17th century by Castiglione and was tested in the 19th century by certain famous artists of the impressionist era such as Blake, Pizarro, Renoir and Monet to name just a few.

The type and the quality of oil, the mixing of colors as well as its application requires much dexterity and the finished result becomes unique.
The dominating effect diffuses luminosity and the rhythm of forms. The contrasts caused by the play of colors create a stimulating effect, they produce a vibrating energy, and they model the forms and structure the composition. White captures brightness and intensifies the direction of space. The uneven textured background translates into a remarkable atmosphere. The contour of the forms leaves room to imagination and poetic sensitivity. This technique is the contemporary expression “expression of the impression".
